Dear Friends,

Conservative forces in the legislature are moving to repeal the Clean Elections
law which voters passed by 2/3 vote in 1998. The governor has promised to veto a
repeal by the House and Senate, so a 2/3 majority is needed in both chambers to
override the executive branch.

Here are a few things you can do to help stop the legislature's attempt to gut
the Clean Elections law.

1. Contact your state representative or state senator and ask them for their
position on Clean Elections. Tell them that you will hold them accountable if
they vote against Clean Elections! (Bonus points if you say you will run
against them if they vote against it.) You can find their contact information by
filling out the fields in the address listed below:

http://www.secstate.isaka.net/magov/search_form.php

You can find a list of the legislators and their positions on the Clean
Elections law at http://www.massvoters.org/.

2. Volunteer for Mass Voters for Clean Elections. They are running an emergency
phone bank, which started last Sunday night at 6 p.m. Mass Voters can use people
day and night next week to help make the calls. They can also fax (or e-mail) a
list of names to you and you can call people from home. You can contact them at
http://www.massvoters.org or 888-775-2475.

3. Write Letters to the Editor of your local papers demanding that law-makers
respect the will of the voters. You can send a letter to the editor of various
papers by visiting: http://www.massvoters.org/LTE.html

While the Supreme Judicial Court weighs possible remedies for funding the law,
we have to fend off this last-ditch, desperate attack on the law and the voters
who passed it. Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,
James O'Keefe
Green Party (Clean Elections) Candidate for Treasurer
