O’KEEFE CAMPAIGN BRINGS ON NEW STAFF

Shelley Fite, the current O’Keefe campaign manager, has decided to take a job
in Wisconsin, and will be leaving the campaign at the end of July. The good
news is that we’ve already found a talented woman to take her place. Vanessa
Bliss is a founder of the Mississippi Green Party, was a field organizer for
the Nader campaign, and has worked as an organizer for many years. She moved to
Greenfield, MA, in January, and has since been the Greenfield community
coordinator for the statewide campaigns.

Vanessa will start on July 24, and will work for the remainder of the campaign,
half the week in the Davis Square office in Somerville, and half the week in
Greenfield. This should benefit the Western Mass activities for all of the
campaigns.

Vanessa is looking for a place to stay in the Greater Boston area. She is
hoping to stay in a friendly Green's guestroom for 3-4 nights/week, from August-
November, and pay low rent (as she will also be paying rent in Greenfield). If
you have space available--even for a month or two of that time--please let us
know as soon as possible at 617-628-2922. This would be a great way to lower
your rent a bit each month while helping out the cause.

JULY 29 - STATEWIDE DOOR-TO-DOOR EFFORT BEGINS IN SOMERVILLE

On Monday, July 29, we are holding a door-to-door kick-off party at the Davis
Square office in Somerville. At 5 p.m., interested Ward 6 residents can come to
the office for a presentation on the Green Party and the current campaigns.
Then, at 6 p.m., campaign volunteers from all over will arrive for pizza and
beverages and a short door-to-door training; of course Ward residents will be
invited to stick around. Then, at 7, we’ll all go out in pairs and drop
campaign literature for all of the statewide campaigns at every house in the
Ward!

This kick-off will be a model for our door-to-door efforts in cities and towns
throughout Massachusetts. Furthermore, it will be a going away party for the
current O’Keefe campaign manager, Shelley Fite, and a “housewarming” party for
the new campaign manager, Vanessa Bliss. Don’t miss this opportunity to get
involved in citizen-powered, grassroots politics!

For more information, call Shelley at 617-628-2922 or respond to this email

JULY 28 - WESTERN MASS ORGANIZING MEETING

John Pepi, the statewide Green campaigns’ Western Mass Organizer is hosting an
organizing meeting on July 28 at his home in Williamsburg. Any Western Mass
folks who want to take on an organizing role with the campaigns in their own
communities or regions are invited to come. Please contact John at
jpepi at admin.umass.edu for more information or to RSVP.

LEMONADE TOUR SPREADS MESSAGE OF CLEAN ELECTIONS

The Lemonade Tour for Democracy is continuing to spread the Clean Elections
message, “When the legislature gives you lemons, make lemonade!” So far, we’ve
held lemonade stands in Hyannis and Lawrence, and received press coverage at
both events. We will soon be holding lemonade stands in Boston, Cambridge,
Waltham, and more. If you’d like to hold a lemonade stand in your town, please
let us know! All it takes is 1-2 volunteers and a pleasant spot in your town
with relatively high foot traffic. One or more of the statewide candidates
(depending on availability) will come and serve lemonade to passersby. It’s
fun, it’s easy, and it’s a great way to get our message out!

DAVIS SQUARE CAMPAIGN OFFICE ANNOUNCES NEW VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE

Due to staff changes and a shift in focus to door-to-door and telephone
outreach, the O’Keefe campaign has changed its weekly volunteer schedule.
Beginning on Monday, July 29, with the door-to-door kick-off, we will have TWO
volunteer nights in Davis Square each week.

Mark your calendars:

Door-to-door Mondays – Meet at 6 p.m. every Monday (beginning July 29) for
pizza and drinks. At 6:30, we’ll go door-to-door to pass out literature and
spread the message of the Green revolution!

Office Wednesdays – Meet at 6 p.m. every Wednesday (beginning July 31) to make
phone calls, stuff envelopes, and do other important office work. Most
Wednesdays, we’ll be making phone calls, but each week, we’ll update you on
what we’re doing! On our first new, improved “Office Wednesday”—July 31st,
we’ll be making yard signs.

If possible, please call before coming to a volunteer night, so we know how
many people to plan for. The number here is 617-628-2922.

JOIN THE CAMPAIGN EFFORT IN YOUR COMMUNITY

No matter where you are in the state, you can help out the O’Keefe campaign, as
well as the Stein and Lorenzen campaigns, in at least four ways:

1. Host a house party! Just invite friends, family and neighbors to your home
for an evening meal, a Sunday brunch, or even a pizza party, and we’ll provide
the candidate. House parties are an excellent way for the candidates to connect
directly with potential campaign supporters and raise money and volunteers. And
they’re fun!!

2. Make phone calls from home! Call through a list of targeted registered
voters in your town to tell them about the Green campaigns. We’ll provide you
with the list, along with instructions and a phone script.

3. Go door-to-door in your neighborhood! Just call us and let us know where you
live, and we’ll provide you with a list of targeted registered voters in your
ward and precinct. It’s fun and easy, and it’s a great way to meet your
neighbors and engage them in a political discussion.

4. Give out campaign information at a local event, concert or fair! If there
are any events, concerts or fairs coming up in your community, let us know.
We’ll provide you with campaign literature, buttons, etc., for you to give out
at the event. Let us know as soon as possible so we can try to reserve table
space for you.

If you are interested in getting involved in any of the above ways, just call
us at 617-628-2922, and we’ll help you!
