UPDATE ON CAMPAIGN STATUS

The O’Keefe campaign is going full speed ahead into the regular campaigning
season. We didn’t qualify for Clean Elections, but we’re on the ballot, we have
a strong base of support and we are ready to take on the Republicans and
Democrats. We are still located at our Davis Square office in Somerville, and
if you are in the area we’d love to see you.

We are expanding and improving the campaign’s issues, improving the website,
creating new materials, and preparing for the most intense statewide grassroots
field campaign in Massachusetts history. Between now and November, we want to
knock on 100,000 doors to engage voters in a conversation about the role of the
State Treasurer in ending corruption of Beacon Hill and making the Commonwealth
a more equitable place, and to get out votes for James and the other Green
candidates in November.

To make suggestions about issues, materials, or strategy, or to get involved
with our field campaign, please call our office at 617-628-2922. We want to
hear from you!

----------------------------------

NEW ON-LINE CONTRIBUTION PAGE UP AND RUNNING

We have a new on-line contribution page on the James O’Keefe website, which is
much easier and faster to use. Check it out at www.jamesokeefe.org. Because we
did not qualify for Clean Elections, we are dependent on the contributions of
our friends and supporters to keep the campaign going. Please consider giving
a contribution or a second contribution today, and directing friends and family
to the website.

----------------------------------

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT THE SOMERVILLE OFFICE

With so much going on, we need your help! Mark your calendar—every Wednesday is
volunteer day, complete with pizza, beverages, and plenty of envelopes to stuff
and other volunteer work to be done. If you are a new volunteer, Wednesdays are
an ideal time to meet other volunteers, get familiar with the campaign and
campaign staff, and do some important work for democracy! We meet at 6 p.m.
Please come this Wednesday if you can—we have a lot of mail to get out—and
consider coming every Wednesday. E-mail or call ahead of time to let us know
you’ll be there.

In addition to Wednesdays, we need volunteers all the time! Please call at
least 30 minutes ahead of time to let us know you’re coming and tell us what
your skills and interests are. The number is, of course, 617-628-2922.

----------------------------------

JULY 4TH IS SEIZE THE DEMOCRACY DAY

Since there will be hundreds of thousands of bored greater Boston and Mass
residents carpeting the banks of the Charles on the 4th, we’re going to supply
them with some reading material about how to overgrow our lapsing government.

WHAT: Join other greens to distribute a Green Party leaflet that tells them
about our local and statewide candidates, the Green Party, and how they can get
involved.

WHERE: Meet up next to MIT press just outside of the KENDALL SQ. T-stop on the
red line or 292 Main St. in Cambridge.

WHEN: Meet at noon on the 4th

----------------------------------

JULY 6TH DEMOCRACY LEMONADE STAND IN HYANNIS

Tony Lorenzen and James O’Keefe will be at the Hyannis Town Common for
Independence Day celebrations with an old-fashioned lemonade stand and a
motto: "When the Legislature gives you lemons, make lemonade!"

WHAT: We’ll be giving out free lemonade and discussing the importance of
promoting clean elections and third-party candidates.

WHERE: Hyannis Town Common, Hyannis, MA

WHEN: Saturday, July 6, 2002. For more information, contact Paul Schwab at
(617) 666-0437.

-------------------------------------

JULY 13TH IS AN EASTERN MASS GREENS PICNIC AND STRATEGY SESSION

The Mystic River Greens are hosting a Green Party picnic and strategy session
on Saturday, July 13. The purpose of this event is for Greens from all over
Eastern Mass to have fun, get to know each other in an informal setting, and
discuss the role of the Greens in promoting progressive politics and electing
candidates, coalition building, creating strategy, etc.

WHAT: A picnic with a purpose.

WHEN/WHERE: To be announced. Email any suggestions of locations to
shelley at jamesokeefe.org. But mark your calendars now!

-----------------------------------------

INTENSIVE CAMPAIGN TRAINING COMING IN AUGUST—RESERVE YOUR SPOT NOW!

The Massachusetts Green Party and the O’Keefe campaign are bringing in Karen
Kubby, an experienced campaigner and teacher with the Independent Progressive
Politics Network, to lead an exciting three-day workshop on how to run a
campaign. Individuals generally pay up to $50 for Karen’s workshop, but we are
picking up almost all of the cost. If you are interested in taking on a large
volunteer role with any of the current campaigns, if you want to learn more
about 3rd party campaigning, or if you are interested in being a candidate or
campaign worker in 2003, 2004, and beyond, do not miss this opportunity!

We only have slots for 20 people. Please reserve your place now by calling 617-
628-2922.

WHAT: A workshop for candidates and campaigners

WHERE: Undecided. Will be in the Greater Boston area. If you are from outside
of Greater Boston, we will find housing for you for the weekend.

WHEN: August 9-11. The workshop begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 9, takes
place throughout the day on Saturday, and ends on Sunday at noon.
