---------------------------------------------------------------------
1. ANOTHER GREAT PERFORMANCE ON WGBH!
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Jamie just gave another great performance last night in the WGBH State
Treasurer debate. Again, he did a great job representing the Green Party’s
platform and showing how the Green Party’s platform just makes more sense than
the dominant parties’ platforms! No wonder Jamie’s polling at 8%!! See
www.suffolk.edu for poll results. With your help, we can increase that
percentage! With everyone’s participation and support, we’ll have a real
opportunity to finish this campaign successfully and have outstanding results!
Please help us put James O’Keefe in the State Treasurer’s office!

---------------------------------------------------------------------
1. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Volunteers across the state are organizing lots of stand-outs to increase
visibility for the candidates. To get involved or to find out what’s going on
in your town, contact our new field organizer, Michael Gainer: 617-623-4733.
He’s pumped and is doing a great job of getting supporters mobilized and
attracting new volunteers. He holds volunteer nights every Monday and
Wednesday from 6pm to 9:00pm at the office in Davis Square, 240B Elm St, Suite
B2. Everyone is encouraged to come to find out how to help and to meet other
volunteers. As a campaign that uses no television or radio advertising, we rely
immensely on volunteers to help us gain our deserved exposure. Therefore, your
help is crucial! If you live in the area and would like to do some work in our
office, you’re always welcome to help. Just call ahead at 617-623-4733 or 617-
628-2922. Chances are, somebody’s here and can help you find something helpful
to do!

night! Call the office and find out when one’s happening!

War Mobilization this Friday in Springfield

Event: Vigil outside of Senator Kerry’s office in Springfield
Date: Friday, October 18th
Location: 1350 Main Street, Springfield
Time: 12 noon
Contact: Michaelann Bewsee (Arise for Social Justice) (413) 734-4948, Jo
Comerford (American Friends Service Committee) (413) 584-8975 or Michael Aleo
(413) 586-1334

On Friday, October 18th, 2002, Western Massachusetts community members will
gather outside of Senator Kerry’s Springfield office to demand that he make a
public appearance in the Western part of the state to explain his decision to
vote in support of President Bush’s war resolution. In doing so, Senator Kerry
helped to cede congressional authority to the President to determine whether
the United States initiates preemptive war with Iraq.

Last Friday, the day of the vote in the Senate, approximately 40 people visited
Senator Kerry’s office to express disappointment with his vote. It was then
that a written demand for Senator Kerry to publicly justify his stand was
delivered to his co-state director, Michael Vito. Mr. Vito assured the crowd
that the demand would be delivered to the Senator. The demand stipulated that
Senator Kerry respond by noon this Friday, October 18th.

This effort has grown out of the frustration many have felt knowing that
Senator Kerry voted in favor of this resolution despite thousands of
constituents’ letters, emails, phone calls and visits to his office regarding
the war, which were 98-99% opposed to the resolution (this figure comes from a
Kerry aide in Boston). People have taken to the streets and gone door-to-door
with petitions to spread awareness about the Senator’s decision.

Also on Friday, full page signature Anti-War ads will run in the Greenfield
Recorder, Hampshire Gazette and Union News. In addition, local activists are
launching www.NoJusticeNoPeace, a website which will connect local
organizations and groups working on the Anti-War effort and strengthen the
newly forming Western Massachusetts Anti-War Alliance.

For more info, please contact: Michaelann Bewsee (413) 734-4948, Jo Comerford
(413) 584-8975, or Michael Aleo (413) 586-1334

you can support Jamie. We really need some volunteers to attend forums and
events with him. Call the office 617-628-2922 if you’re interested in driving
him to various campaign events and attending them to support him.
